A Cat in Time
Hi, have we met? Probably not! Well let me introduce myself to you. I am Destiny, young she-cat and resident of the Misty Forest. I have soft, silky dappled grey and white fur and pale pink paw pads and an even lighter shade of pink for my rather small nose. Everybody calls me Kaleidoscope Cat. I recently found out why. I have colourful eyes, like a kaleidoscope. I have no idea why my eyes are like that, they just are, and not just when the light changes, but all the time. At one point this random cat said I had silver markings all over me, I thought he was crazy at the time, now I know why he was saying those things. Right now I am trapped in a fire between the cat I love and the cat I hate. Interesting isn’t it? Let me tell you how I got into this mess.
It started when I was walking in the forest. I was with Jet, my best friend. He’s black with green eyes. I was seeing things. I was seeing strange silver, glowing markings on the trees. Every time I looked carefully the markings disappeared. I thought I was seeing things but it turns out I wasn’t. We came to a stone arch. The markings on the arch didn’t disappear like the ones on the trees, they stayed there. I asked Jet if he saw them but he didn’t. So we continued. We walked through the arch and that’s when it happened, my life changed when we walked through that arch. There was a sudden flash of colour and then I wasn’t in the Mist Forest, I was somewhere else, and Jet wasn’t with me anymore. I was alone, in a strange place with absolutely no idea where I was. The place smelled weird. I looked up at the sky but it wasn’t the sky I was used to, there weren’t clouds and it wasn’t sky blue, I could see stars, and planets and believe it or not, Earth. I was staring at Earth. Then I saw cats, with strange silver glowing markings. I started to back away, slowly and quietly, but they still spotted me. One of them grabbed my scruff and dragged me. I yowled, I struggled, I did everything I could to get away but they succeeded in dragging me away to some place. It was a building, a large building. Inside was a shiny floor, a high up roof and many cats here, there and everywhere. I decided that I didn’t want to be in this place. I pulled and struggled with a sudden force that I became free of the cat that had me and I ran. I ran towards the exit, the way I came in. I heard loud noises but I was oblivious to everything around me. I just wanted to go home, to continue the walk with Jet, this was all too weird, and it was all too much for me to bear. Then something hit me, I went flying sideways and landed with a thump. Pain seethed through one of my legs and I growled. “Who did that?” I hissed. A pretty young she-cat, not much larger than me stepped forward, “I did,” she replied calmly. I stood up and snarled. “You? You’re too weak to do anything,” I taunted. I saw rage in her eyes; it was burning like a forest fire. I didn’t flinch, I knew she would break. “Why don’t you prove your strength fairly, instead of doing one silly move and pretending you’re amazing,” I tried again, and this time I thought I did pretty well. That did it. Her anger was showing everywhere else on her body. She was shaking slightly, her teeth were bared and her tail was flicking back and forth, violently. She raced towards me with unsheathed claws. She was fast, very fast. But I only smiled. I jumped up and the she-cat went right under me. I turned and raced towards her. I leaped onto her and gripped onto her back. She yowled in pain as I raked my claws down her back, drawing scarlet blood which dripped onto the shiny floor. I had her pinned, she was trying to free herself but she couldn’t. I had won, easily; I had proven that I was stronger than I looked. I looked around and noticed a bunch of cats staring at me. They had wide eyes. I had proven my strength in front of many cats too. Well I was proud. Cats were gaping at me and some were backing away. One cat, a tom, padded forward. He had a dark brown tabby pelt with dark amber eyes. He had a long, deep scar across his forehead. He looked slightly angry but I didn’t really care. “What is your name?” he growled. I didn’t answer. He looked furious. He slashed his claws across my face. I didn’t flinch or make a noise. I could feel the warm, wet blood soaking my face fur. “What is your name?” he asked again. I decided that I didn’t want to be torn apart so I answered, “Destiny,” I mewed defiantly. A cat gasped. I looked at my pelt and my eyes widened. Silver markings covered my pelt; glowing silver markings. I turned back to him. He had wide eyes and a surprised expression. “So you are not a stranger, you are one of us,” he muttered with an annoyed tone to voice. “I know not what you speak of. I do not know what I am, tell me,” I meowed. But then everything went…crazy.
The cats faded away and I saw myself, playing, and I remembered playing that game a few years ago. I shook my head in confusion. Then the image faded away and I saw my mother, my dear sweet mother. Then to my horror she was dead, blood everywhere. Then I saw a cat, an evil cat, with blood red eyes and a shadowy black pelt. He barred his dagger like teeth at me. I heard a whine. It was me, the moment after I was born. My father had always told me the story, but I had never imagined it like this. The last thing I saw was a pool of blood before the image faded. Or was it an image? I could feel the blood splattering my pelt, I could hear the hiss of the cat when he hissed at me, he hissed at me? I was there, but how? I felt my body shaking. I looked around and all I saw was white. I looked up and saw clouds, and snow falling. I could hear the patter of paws. I looked and saw myself, and Mitzi, and Jet. I heard my voice shouting, “Quick! We have to get out of this blizzard!” Then I heard a wail. I saw Mitzi. She was lying in the snow, shivering. Snow was covering her, fast. I saw myself turn and race to her. I backed away and heard my desperate cry. I knew what would happen next and I didn’t want to be there when it happened again. That was the day when my best friend Mitzi died, and I will never truly forget it. The image faded. Next thing I knew I was in the middle of a fire. The flames were burning at my pelt and I could see the flames dancing around me. Then I saw him the cat that killed my mother. I hate him now, now that I know he’s the one who killed her. I backed away as far as I could go but the fire was behind me. Then I heard a gasp of shock. I turned and I saw Jet. I was back in the Misty Forest, I think. So here’s where we began, in the fire between the cat I love and hate. But then the weirdest thing I could ever imagine happens. Jet pads up to me and licks my cheek. “If this is the end-” he started “This won’t be the end,” I interrupt. I can feel my own fear rising. I turn back to Mr Evil Kitty. I hiss in rage. This was the time, the time I try. I leap, I can feel my muscles burning and I feel the adrenaline rushing through me. I slash my claws down his chest, turn and kick him in the face. I turn back to face him again but I’m not quick enough, the moment I face him, he digs his claws into my throat. I collapse with blood dripping down my neck. I cough harshly. I have my eyes wide open. What I see isn’t the greatest thing, the ground is covered in hot, sticky blood, most of it my own. Every time I cough more blood appears. I had never hoped for death, though I knew it would come, I only ever wanted to die a simple death, but instead I have to endure the most painful death I can think of. I feel Jet’s pelt next to mine. “Don’t give in, you can make it,” he mewed. Then he was gone. I don’t know where he went, but he’s gone. Now I feel alone, maybe death isn’t that bad. I looked up at the cat. If I was going to die, he was going to die with me. I give all I have and leap up and grab his throat in my teeth. I bite down as hard as I can and I feel warm blood on my tongue. He goes limp so I let go. He collapses onto the ground, just like I did. I watch his blood pool out around him. Then I hear noises. I hear a loud noise. It was that noise that I heard before, the noise that came from the big red monster that the humans used for fires and stuff. Then my wound kicks in, I suddenly feel dizzy. I lie down slowly and let the darkness take me.
Well, there you have it, one of my many stories and my personal favourite. Now, time to retell it, this time to my kittens. They are a very active bunch, especially Ebony. If only Jet were still alive to help me look after them. Well, he isn’t, so I had better go stop them from eating the goldfish!
